Kingsborough Community College (KBCC), part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, is the only community college in Brooklyn, New York. Located in Manhattan Beach, the 71-acre (283,000 m²) campus overlooks Sheepshead Bay, Jamaica Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. In its early years, it also had an annex, known as the "Mid-Brooklyn campus". Opening in 1909, Canarsie became BPL's thirty-ninth branch in 1932. Five years later, the library moved to more spacious quarters, but by 1957, even more room was requested and a new building was constructed in 1960.

Built on its present site in 1896, the Bay Ridge Free Library, first organized in 1880 by the Bay Ridge Reading Club, became a BPL branch in 1901. The spacious, two-story structure opened in 1960. In 2004 it underwent a $2.1 million renovation that included new lighting, furniture, shelving and 27 new public access computers.

The first library in the Brooklyn Public Library system. It opened in 1897 in the former P.S. 3, a schoolhouse in a cornfield. After two other locations, it moved to its present 1905 Carnegie building.

In 1907, the small, independent library that occupied the Edgewood Reformed Chapel for three years became Borough Park Branch. After outgrowing a 13th Avenue site established in 1926, the library moved to its current location
